Jocelyn Bates has her MA in Expressive Art Therapy/Intermodal from Lesley University and her BA in Transformative Learning and Integral Studies from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She graduated Circle in the Square Theater school for Musical Theater and is a Holistic Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Jocelyn is a homeschooling mama of three who writes in the early hours of the morning when the quiet is settled in and the house is pregnant with possibility.
She’s been an arts therapist and teaching artist for over 15 years and a mama for almost 9.
As a mother, she has re-discovered her love of stories, especially fairy tales, myths and the telling of the places where we all intersect. It’s a re-discovered love that has been nurtured alongside bedtime stories, telling stories of our family’s history, creating stories with the kids, listening to stories in the car on long trips and helping her kids write their own stories.
“I’ve never seen so clearly before how a good story can effect change.”
– Jocelyn Bates (2018)
She decided to write her first novel of the Storyteller Series from this re-ignited passion for stories and the magical possibilities they hold. It is filled with long, loose strands of thoughts, descriptions, and pieces of stories strung together with Love, Hope and a little bit of Magic.
Jocelyn lives in NJ with her family. In her ever elusive spare time, she enjoys yoga, qigong, reading tarot cards, karaoke, a good romantic comedy and just plain having fun.
